Dofollow or nofollow, that is the question ~ (comment links)

I watched an interesting video this morning over at Site Sketch 101. The topic was “7 Things More Important than dofollow links” and was made by Keith Bloemendaal.

Keith covers the 7 things that he feels are more important than those who chase the dofollow links. These 7 points being content; conversation; real community; Digg, Stumble & Redit traffic; traffic that converts; quality design; and a good cup of coffee.

I agree with all them except #7. I can’t stand coffee, but a good cup of tea will do the trick :-)

I feel the most important point of them all is content. Running around chasing the dofollow link is a time wasting endeavor, especially if you have no useful content of your own.

Concentrate on other areas of growth for your site and blog. If you have something useful or helpful to say, then by all means get into the conversation. But to comment simply to get a link. It’s wasteful and makes others have to wade through the crap to get to the good stuff.

Many blogs will have their comments set to the default which is nofollow for all comments. I personally think this a little too far to one side. There nothing wrong with dofollow for those who don’t abuse it. With my blog “Erratic”, I use the Link Love plugin. I have it set so someone will have to comment a certain number of times before they start getting a dofollow link. Until that time it’s nofollow for all their comments.

What are your thoughts on dofollow or nofollow?

Are you using a plug in for dofollow links? What’s your favorite plugin and why?

Good Site. Saw this post talking about dofollow and thought you would like to know about a new site, Wiki Dofollow. It is a community compiled list of high ranking dofollow sites. That way, the list stays current.

If you want, be one of the first to blog about it. I am sure you know how difficult it is getting visitors to a new site. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks.
